Purple

Purple is going to be one of the hottest colors for eyes this fall. And despite what you may think, everyone can wear purple.

May

Whether it’s plum or wine, berry or royal purple, lilac or lavendar, there is a shade to suit everyone. And it’s a very versatile color, lighter shades blend perfectly for daytime and deeper hues create a dramatic evening look.

Here are my three favorite purples:

Almay i-Color Shadow Trio This color trio is called For Browns but the lavendar is the color that will open up the eye and catch attention while the light and dark brown will enhance brown eyes.

Revlon Colorstay 12 Hour Eyeshadow Quads This quad is Berry Bloom. It has every shade of berry for either day or night. You can use the darkest shade for eyeliner and the lightest shade is perfect for highlighting the brow bone.

L’Oreal HiP These high intensity pigments in Charisma are vibrant and rich, making your eyes the dramatic focal point.

Smoky Eyes for Fall

Summer days require natural, barely there looks, light dashes of color and shimmery gloss for lips. But now as autumn moves in with cooler days and warmer colors, so too, should your makeup colors warm up.

Eyes

Eyes will be the focus this season, deep, dark and smoky. Eyeliner will be worn on both upper and lower lids. Apply soft pencil liner as close to the lash line as possible and smudge slightly, making sure to extend and smudge beyond the outer corner of the eye. Use a deep shade on lids, up to the crease to deepen the eye and a narrow brush line of the same shadow under the lower lashes. Use a lighter shade above the crease to blend or use a bronze or gold shimmer shade very lightly brushed over the whole eyelid.

Eyeliner

Since 4000 BC, when Egyptian women (and men) painted kohl around their eyes, eyeliner has been widely used in daily make-up to enhance the shape of the eyes and make them appear larger.

Ancient Egyptians

Eyeliner has come a long way since the days of the thick lead sulfide used in ancient times. Nowadays you can get eyeliner in several popular forms. You can draw with pencils, use liquid and cake eyeliners applied with a brush or try out the new felt tip eyelining wands. But whatever type of eyeliner you choose, applying it can still be as mysterious as an ancient art.

The decision of whether to line the whole eye or only the top lid is one of individual taste and the look you want to achieve. The liner should be thicker near the outer corners of eyes and taper off towards the inside corners. Applying liner to the inside rim of the eyelids is not a good idea as it can cause infection.

Colors should coordinate with your eyeshadow but you aren’t limited to just basic brown, black or navy blue. Using eyeshadow applied with a wet lining brush gives you the greatest color option. If you have a steady hand, a liquid liner applies in just one stroke. To use a pencil eyeliner, it is best to make a series of dots across the lid and then smudge with a fingertip.

Whether you use eyeliner on the top lid only to define the shape of the eye or line both lids for a dramatic look, the art of eyelining goes back centuries and makes the eyes the focus of the face.

The Essential Summer Make Up Bag

Summer means longer and brighter days and more time spent out of doors. Your look should be a healthy glow. You want to accent eyes and lips to draw attention but you needn’t spend too much time applying your make-up and you don’t have to tote around pounds of products. A simple four items tucked into your bag are all you need for that care-free summer look.

Make up bag

The make up bag

1. Care for your face:

The first item in your essential summer make-up bag should be a light face cream with built-in sunscreen. Apply often throughout the day. Wrinkles appear less noticeable when the skin is moisturized and you will reduce the damage from heat and sun. If you want to wear foundation, choose a minimum cover foundation (unless you are blending freckled or uneven skin tones). Use one that has an added sunscreen.

2. Be Cheeky:

Too much blush can look like stage make-up in natural sunlight. How about brushing lightly over the face with a bronzing powder? Applying a light dusting of a rosy blush on your cheeks over the bronzer will give cheeks a natural glow.

3. Give ‘em the eye:

Eyeliner on the top lid only to make the eyes appear larger and define them. Use a natural brown or brown/black. Waterproof mascara for lashes, as humidity can melt make-up and leave dark circles under your eyes. Use natural colors for eyeshadow; earth tones in sand, gold and shades of tan or brown work well.

4. Kissable Lips:

Start with a moisturizing lip balm that contains a sunscreen. Lip gloss with sheer color is great for daylight hours. If you have a tan, you can go brighter, richer, deeper with color without looking “made up”. Stay away from pale frosts, but a bit of shine is always in fashion.

Pack these four items and look naturally fabulous all summer!
